Heading 1
At key moments, even the greatest cities of the world have to change to stay great. For Melbourne, that starts with a rail corridor that has divided the city from its sporting precinct for decades.
Introducing G Line — a progressive, fully self-funded vision to transform this spiritual heart of the city, and the way we connect with, live in and experience it.
G Line transforms the rail yards around Richmond Station into a new destination connecting the MCG, Melbourne Park, Richmond, Cremorne and the Birrarung.
For over 60 years, infrastructure problems at Richmond have stood in the way of redevelopment. G Line resolves them through a proprietary program that can be delivered without closing the rail and road networks, the MCG and surrounding venues, or our parks and gardens. The project delivers a new Richmond Station, new public spaces, housing, hospitality and safer pedestrian and cycling connections. Rather than viewing the railway as a barrier, G Line uses the space above it to create a self-funded, entirely new piece of Melbourne.

Sport is one of the precinct’s great anchors. But G Line’s vision reaches further, to make this part of Melbourne work better for everyone, every day of the week.
It brings together six neighbourhoods, each with its own identity and its own mix of culture, recreation, housing and community life.
G Line gives our city more public space and stronger connections between surrounding communities — ensuring this part of Melbourne gives back more than it takes.
